Suez Canal
-[25/3/2021 9:22AM] Suez Canal Update: The Suez Canal remains blocked and we have now exceeded 48 hours of canal closure due to the grounding of Ever Given. Efforts to float the vessel at high tide Wednesday evening were unsuccessful.
As of this morning YM Fountain has been reversed back out of the southern end of canal and Asia Ruby is in the process of reversing back out of the canal assisted by a number of tugboats. Maersk Denver – the vessel right behind Ever Given – remains at anchor in the canal.
The blockage has caused an extensive traffic jam, with more than 100 ships laden with cargo including oil, automotive parts and consumer goods waiting to get through one of the world’s key trade arteries.
The owners and insurers of Ever Given, lodged in the Suez Canal could be facing a hefty insurance bill once unstuck.
The main costs could revolve around machinery damage and claims from other ships dealing with delays.
Efforts to refloat the ship has resumed on Thursday morning.
